LIM is an inventory program. It helps you in collecting data about your devices, medias, software programs and licenses. Once you entered these items, you may assign them to each other: this program is on this CD; this license covers that program; this license is used on that device; this device runs that program. In this way you geteht relations between items thus gatering an overview on how the items are distributed in your company. Furthermore, as LIM can handle leasing contracts (and the resulting cost for a device), you may even get am instant overview about different kinds of costs.
What do you need?
Using LIM is easy: just take your favorite browser and goto the LIM URL...
Installing LIM is just a little bit more complicated: make sure, that
Apache (min. v1.3) is installed
PostgreSQL (min. v7.3) is installed
PHP (min. v4.3) is installed
Then it's best following the README included in the package file which tells you the principle things.
First things first:
As first login, login as LIM Admin. You do this by default login admin, password "admin". Please do change the password after logging in by clicking on the "Persons/Locations" link. Then edit the admin's data entry by clicking on the edit icon (it's down in the list of persons, the icon with the paper and the pencil; it's the right most icon...) in the then upcoming form.
As next step you should enter a new person for yourself... And do not forget to assign access to the needed LIM sections by using the key pair icon when you have created a person item.
Second things afterwards:
LIM is meant to be a working tool. So, you have to work with it now, by entering data (devices, medias, products, licenses). On this way you may have to enter new leasing contracts (to assign them for devices), new software manufacturers, a.s.o.
Todo
As many programmers do: I wrote the program, I know how it works. Writing user documentation is somehow awkward. So, if somebody wants to help me in that, you're warmly welcome :-)) in the project.
